KS1 Curriculum

Spring 1 2025

This half term Key Stage One children have loved Immersing themselves in their topic of “Let’s go to China.” They have learnt all about the Chinese New Year festival and have created beautiful lanterns and flexible ‘dancing’ dragons to decorate the classroom As well as this, we have looked at the traditional story behind the order of the Chinese Zodiac and learnt about the story depicted in the beautiful Willow Pattern plates. The children used clay to create their own Willow Pattern bowls and plates. They painted them so carefully.

The children have enjoyed their Thrive sessions: The Year Two children created a beautiful ‘worry worm’ from craft and wooden beads whilst the Year One children made rainbow calming cloud using brightly coloured paper chains! The sessions were well attended by parents and it was wonderful to see collaborative learning. Some lucky children have also been chosen this half term to share some time with Jessie our Therapy dog. The children have enjoyed lots of cuddles, reading her stories and singing her songs.

We have celebrated both NSPCC Numbers Day and Internet Safety Day this half term. On Numbers day we learnt about problem solving, played Maths themed games and learnt all about careers which use Maths skills and on Internet safety day we learnt about how to spot scams and phishing activity online and what to do to protect ourselves from this.

We also had an exciting visit from Elveden Estates who bought in their tractor for the children to look at and learn about all the work the farmers working on the Estate around the school get up to!

One of the Children’s favourite things this half term was designing and making their own fruit salad! The children were able to taste lots of different and exotic fruit and each made their own fruit salads! Delicious.

We look forward to our topic next half term which is ‘Are we nearly there yet?’ and our visit to Bressingham Steam Museum.
What are we learning about this half term?
