KS1 Curriculum

Autumn 2 2024

What a fantastic term we have had enjoying our 'Light and Dark' topic. On our immersion day the children made clay owls, read The Owl who was afraid of the Dark and learnt how to draw cartoon owls too.

The children have been learning about Remembrance Day and the significance of Bonfire Night. In History, the children have learnt about the Gunpowder Plot and been detectives when searching for clues about the characters and artefacts linked to this theme. They also learnt about the importance of Remembrance day and made beautiful Poppy Field pieces of art to commemorate soldiers everywhere.

Our Science learning was connected to Materials. The children learnt about the properties of materials and investigated their flexibility and rigidity in an investigation. They experimented with playdough  and found it could be twisted, bent, stretched and manipulated.

Of course we have all enjoyed all the Christmas festivities, our Christmas Concerts were a huge success. The children enjoyed singing and performing to their parents. The children in Year 2 were also involved with the Now Press Play Live Christmas Story experience. The children, along with others from around the country, joined in with listening to and acting out the Christmas Story. We have also had a wonderful visit from 'Open the Book' team in assembly where we were given a wonderful re-telling of the Christmas Story.

In English and Maths the children have continued to work hard on developing their skills and have been reading an array of books in their Little Wandle sessions. Year 1 have been reading Sidney, Stella and the Moon and made fabulous fact files all about the Moon.

This term the children have also learnt all about the Zone of Regulations. They made worry bags, calming stress ball monsters and worry stones to use at School. We have taught them about the Zones of Regulation and how to use these things to get back to the Green Zone.

The children have made calendars, Christmas decorations, and cards, enjoyed a Christmas disco, party and singing concert. It has been very busy and very fun.

Next term we look forward to our new topic of 'Let's go to China' which will kick off with learning about Chinese New Year. We also have a pantomime performance to look forward to.

We wish you a wonderful, happy and healthy Christmas with your families.
