Spring 2 2026

Key Stage One have had an incredibly exciting and enriching half term, filled with memorable learning experiences and fantastic achievements. Our topic on castles has truly captured the children’s imagination, bringing history to life in the most engaging way. The highlight of this learning journey was undoubtedly our visit to Mountfitchet Castle, where the children stepped back in time and experienced what life might have been like in a real medieval castle. Exploring the grounds, seeing the animals, and discovering the different buildings made our classroom learning feel real and unforgettable.

Alongside our topic work, the children have continued to make excellent progress in Maths and English. Year One have been developing their confidence with subtraction, using practical resources and visual methods to deepen their understanding. Meanwhile, Year Two have been working hard on adding two-digit numbers, using dienes and foam tens frames to support their learning. It has been wonderful to see their growing confidence and independence when tackling more challenging problems.

In English, our learning has been just as exciting. Year One have thoroughly enjoyed exploring the stories Beegu and The Odd Egg, which have inspired some fantastic creative writing. The children have loved describing characters, imagining new adventures, and building their storytelling skills. Year Two have been captivated by The Bear Under the Stairs, using the story to develop their comprehension and writing, producing some thoughtful and imaginative pieces of work.

This half term has also been packed with special events that have added even more excitement to our learning. During our Artist Day, the children explored the work of Georgia O’Keeffe, creating their own beautiful pieces inspired by her unique style. Their creativity and attention to detail were truly impressive.

World Book Day was another highlight, filled with enthusiasm and a love of reading. Year Two enjoyed diving into Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl, while Year One explored the charming stories of Beatrix Potter. The costumes, activities, and shared love of books made it a truly magical day for everyone.

As the term came to a close, our Easter celebrations brought even more joy and laughter. The children sang beautifully during performances of Spring Chicken and Easter Jubilation, showing great enthusiasm and confidence. They also had lots of fun taking part in Easter Bingo and showcased their creativity by decorating wonderfully egg-stravagant designs for our Easter competition.

Overall, it has been a fun-filled and fabulous half term. The children have shown enthusiasm, creativity, and determination in all areas of their learning. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to another exciting term ahead!

We wish you an Egg-cellent Easter break!
