UKS2 – Autumn 2
This half term year six have been reading ‘Windrush Child’ by Benjamin Zephaniah. Through this amazing story they have learnt about the life changing decision, made by many Jamaicans, to come to England. This has prompted a great deal of discussion about what life would have been like. Year five have been reading ‘The Man Who Walked Between the Towers’ by Mordicai Gerstein. This is the fascinating story of Philippe Petit, the man who walked on a tightrope between the Twin Towers. The children researched his achievements with great interest.
The children have also been learning about WWI. They have found out about life in the trenches, how the war began and why Remembrance Day is so important. It was an honor to take year six to the Remembrance service on the 11th, we were incredibly proud of how respectful they were. After the service we reflected on how many young men Brandon lost in the war. We then used clay to create our own poppies, inspired by the ‘Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red’ installation at The Tower of London.
It has been a very busy, fun filled term in year five and six. We look forward to next half term learning all about space. We hope you all have a well deserved break over Christmas.
