UKS2 Curriculum

UKS2 – Spring 2

Our year five and six children have thoroughly enjoyed their lessons this term on the topic, “Out of This World” where they have learnt about the history of the Space Race. This term the children have been creating timelines of the events of the Space Race and presenting their research on the moon landings and significant women astronauts to their peers. The children have been getting creative in their history lessons, using their knowledge of the Space Race to create propaganda posters akin to the ones that appeared in the 1950s and 1960s.

In English year five have been taking part in the Theatre Royal’s Tiny Plays, Big Ideas program. Two playwrights visited the school and worked with the children on developing their own scripts. They are very excited to visit the theatre and see if any of their plays were chosen to be performed on stage.

Science Week was an exciting week for us in Upper Key Stage 2, as we completed some excellent experiments and learnt about Marie Daly and Becky Schroeder.

The children have enjoyed getting active this term in PE. Our year 5 children have made some great progress with their swimming confidence and stamina throughout their lessons. The children enjoyed learning how to play handball this term and are looking forward to continuing into next term. The children have developed their teamwork skills and now understand the importance of communicating a strategy when being ‘Team Ants’ in PE.

Next term we will be starting our summer topic, ‘Africa’. The children will be creating some African animal inspired art work and finding out about the life and achievements of Nelson Mandela.

What are we learning about this half term?
